Safety Brief: Eye and Face Protection

You should always wear eye and/or face protection if you work around dust, flying particles, harmful light radiation or hazardous chemicals. 

PROPER CARE AND USE OF SAFETY GLASSES 

  • Replace glasses that have scratches, cracks or any abnormal wear 
  • Clean lenses under running water to help prevent scratches 
  • Use a headband or straps to keep your glasses from falling off
  • Store your glasses in a clean, dry location 

TYPES OF EYE/FACE PROTECTION 

  • Side shields provide moderate impact protection from flying particles 
  • Safety goggles protect eyes, eye sockets and surrounding facial area from impact, dust, splashes and other hazards 
  • Chemical goggles protect eyes from liquid chemicals 
  • Welders’ helmets protect eyes from sparks, splashing metals and harmful light rays 
  • Laser safety goggles protect eyes from intense concentrations of light from lasers 
  • Face shields protect eyes and entire face from flying particles, sparks and chemicals splashes/sprays
